Abuse was part of it, but people on this thread seem to focus too much on that when that wasn’t the main aspect of his trauma. Also, you have to remember Kousei’s trauma is centered around the pressure and expectations of his mother, not the abuse. Just because Kousei decides not to hit back doesn’t mean he can’t. Everyone is on an equal level, and there’s just some friendly slapping around going on. Nobody’s being taken advantage of, nobody’s in a superior or dominant position. The friends don’t have any malicious intent either, and it’s clear they respect Kousei as a person and as a friend that they would stop if he expressed his discomfort. Ever see puppies playing with each other? Obviously it’s a problem if any of the friends don’t want that, but nowhere in the show is it indicated at all that Kousei is bothered by it. It IS normal for friends to hit each other playfully. I feel like the majority of the regularly active users on this site are sheltered, antisocial weebs that can’t differentiate abuse from friends messing around, which leads to these kinds of bait-esque threads. In any case, I don’t know if any of you have actually been actually beaten before, but getting beaten by your parents and screwing around with your friends are quite different. I guess part of it’s because Westerners look down upon using violence to discipline children a lot more than most Asians do, since it’s been socially acceptable in many Asian countries to do so until pretty recently.

Your lie in april anime website driver#
I’m not debating the use of forgiveness as a way to past things but it’s not the SOLE driver of people overcoming their trauma and this show pretty much entirely puts its premise that the thing keeping him back is being able to forgive his mom so he can forgive himself, which again I feel undercuts most of the brunt of the trauma would be things internal to him.

Any effective therapy has forgiveness into it Forgive but DONT forget is a good mantra to go by. I’m more bothered by the fact that so much of his development in overcoming his trauma is so strongly tied to forgiving his abusive mom as she deserves to be forgiven and that feels like it tries to minimize his trauma.įorgiveness is a really important aspect of moving on and recovering from trauma. I do think there’s a bit of dissonance between them using his friends’ joking ribbing for comedic affect and then turning up on his mother’s physical abuse for drama but I don’t it’s entirely bad on that end.
